Admission to the Promise Academy Charter Schools is either by our annual admission lottery for 3-year-olds or by placing your student’s name on our waiting list. The August 2018 lottery is available for children who were born in 2015 and reside within New York State.

What do I need to bring with me to apply to Promise Academy?
If your child was born in 2015, you will be eligible to participate in the lottery. Please call Niya Brown at 212-360-3255 for more details about the lottery application requirements.

If your child was born in 2014 or earlier, you will be eligible for the waitlist. Only basic information, such as your address and phone number, is needed to place your child’s name on the waitlist. More extensive information will only be required if you are called to enroll.  To fill out a waitlist application, please visit 1916 Park Avenue (between 130th and 131st Street), Room 611, Monday - Friday, 8:30 am - 4:30 pm, or apply online.

Do I need to reapply every year for the wait list?
No, applications roll forward each year. Parents only need to update their application if their contact information changes or their child is not promoted to the next grade.

Are there admissions preferences?
Yes, but preferences only apply to children who participate in the lottery. No preferences are awarded for children who apply to the wait-list.  Preferences are applied in the following order:
  1. Siblings of students enrolled in Promise Academy
  2. Students who reside in the NYCHA’s Saint Nicholas Houses (Promise Academy I only)
  3. Low-income students who reside in NYC Community School District 5
  4. Low-income students who reside in Central Harlem. The boundaries of Central Harlem are 5th Avenue to the east, Manhattan/St. Nicholas Avenue to the west, 110th Street to the south and Harlem River Drive to the north.
  5. All other students who reside in NYC Community School District 5
Is there an online application?
